That's right, folks: 14-year-old vunderblogger Tavi Gevinson and former Jane editor (and namesake), Jane Pratt, are launching a magazine together. And if the details are true, it might be the best thing ever.
This unlikely duo hatched the scheme after Pratt came across a post on Tavi's blog, "Style Rookie," praising 80's tween fashion mag (and another of Pratt's brainchildren), Sassy. After meeting in person, the duo outlined the details of what would become "a magazine for an audience of wallflowery teenage girls" (and, ahem, a few wallflowery adults).
According to Tavi, the goal isn't to reinvent Sassy for a new generation: "For one, you can't try to recreate something that good," she explains. "For another, while I can read old issues of Sassy and relate, the world has changed a bit in the past 15 or so years, and that whole Internet thing happened, and this world calls for something different."
Tavi won't disclose the nuts and bolts of the project (we're dying to know the name!), but she did issue a call for writing submissions with a deadline of Novermber 19th, which suggests they're kicking things into high gear.
We can't wait to see the fruits of their labor, and interested writers can email samples to MagazineSubmissionsAreFun@gmail.com. This may be the most awesomely unusual pairing since Bruce Willis and perfume.
