Bridgewater Army Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

25-year-old Bridgewater soldier killed in Afghanistan

An Army soldier who went to high school in New Jersey died Monday while serving in Afghanistan.

Scott Brunkhorst, 25, was an Army weapons squad leader from Bridgewater based at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

Brunkhorst graduated from Bridgewater-Raritan High School in 2003.  Friends say he was a member of the football and track teams. He joined the Army after graduating high school.

Brunkhorst was on his second tour of duty when he was killed.  Friends call him a patriot and say when his five-year commitment had ended in August he immediately decided to re-enlist.

The Department of Defense has not yet released the details surrounding his death.

Brunkhorst is survived by his wife, Krystal and their young daughter Kendall.
