A 19-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Manhattan Thursday afternoon in front of the High School for Environmental Studies in Hell's Kitchen, police said.
Theodore Beckles, who attended Independence High School nearby, was walking with his girlfriend outside Environmental near West 56th Street and 9th Avenue at about 2:45 p.m. when he got into an altercation with another male.
The attacker stabbed Beckles in the stomach, then fled, police said.
A witness who did not want to give her name said she saw the bloody aftermath of the stabbing play out in front of her home.
"I saw people, it was a bunch of crowds there, and someone was like, 'Get help!'" the woman said. "'Help him, help him, help him.' That's when the security guards started helping him and called an ambulance."
Beckles was taken to New York Hospital Cornell, where he was pronounced dead.
Beckles and his attacker were apparently rivals from the two different schools, friends said.
A friend of the victim who only gave his first name, Robert, said he had known Beckles, who had recently moved to the Bronx from Manhattan, since they were children.
"He didn't deserve that," he said.
No arrest has been made, and police are investigating.
