Putnam Woman Accused of Starving 15-Year-Old Dog

A 26-year-old Putnam County woman was arrested for allegedly neglecting and starving her 15-year-old dog, named Suzy, in what one official called "one of the worst cases of an emaciated animal I have ever seen."
Kathryn DeStefano, of Carmel, was charged Thursday with animal cruelty for failure to provide sustenance to and neglecting the mixed breed dog.
A veterinary hospital had contacted Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals officials about two weeks prior to her arrest after the dog died in their emergency room.

Suzy was suffering from severe emaciation, infected pressure sores on her sternum and scabbed over ulcers on her face and hind legs, authorities said.

DeStefano is scheduled to be arraigned next month.
Information on an attorney for her wasn't immediately available.
