A lightning strike in Tuesday morning's thunderstorms hampered operations at a Suffolk County police department, officials said.
Radio and communications systems at the Town of Southampton's Police Department headquarters were knocked out for about an hour and a half because of the strike, according to a department spokesman.
The building didn't lose power in the storm and the department could still receive 911 calls after the strike.
The spokesman said he saw a flash and heard a loud boom just before the department's communications alarm sounded.
The department used its mobile command post to restore those operations about 15 minutes after the strike.
There was a similar outage a few years ago, according to the spokesman.
The department is still trying to figure out how much long-term damage was done by the lightning strike.
