Michelle Obama was stunning on Wednesday night in a one-shouldered, ivory silk chiffon gown at the 10 Inaugural balls she attended with her husband, President Barack Obama. And today, the man of the moment, Jason Wu, told Stacy London, who has been dressed by the young designer for several events she covered for Access Hollywood, about his historic creation.

“How do you feel?” a proud Stacy asked her pal of designing the dress everyone is talking about.

“Amazing. I feel like I’m in a dream still pinching myself,” the 26-year-old New York-based designer said.

Jason revealed that he found out his gown was the one chosen by the First Lady for the Inaugural balls the same time everyone else did.

“I was in the living room with friends watching the show like everyone else in America and I was like, ‘I think that’s mine. Oh wait, that’s mine,’” Jason said. “When it became really real, my parents called me. They’re in Taiwan, 13 hours away, and they saw it five minutes after it appeared.”

Jason said his relationship with the new First Lady developed over time.

“She’s been supportive of my line and collection and said, ‘I think your clothes would be perfect,’” he recounted.

Michelle has worn Jason’s designs before, choosing his $3,500 raw silk dress for a Barbara Walters interview in November. Her gown last night, however, the one that will be placed in the Smithsonian, was one-of-a-kind.

“I knew it was a formal occasion and I knew it had to sparkle. That was my only memo,” Jason said of the gown, which was embellished with Organza and Swarovski crystal rhinestones. “I saw her in this dress in my mind… I thought what’s more powerful than a beautiful white dress showing off her beautiful body?”

Michelle accented her dress with white satin Jimmy Choo sandals and jewels by Loree Rodkin. Her sparkling ring had a 10-carat diamond.

And as for President Barack Obama? He wore an $895 Hart Schaffner Marx tuxedo with a white bowtie.
