A 15-year-old boy died after he slumped over in his chair and fell onto the floor in a Brooklyn classroom Monday.
The Department of Education said paramedics were called after Cardel Lee suddenly collapsed inside a classroom at the High School for Civil Rights in Canarsie.
The boy's mother, Sabrina Lee, said he was sitting in class when he lifted up his hands, then suddenly slumped to the floor and started turning blue.
A teacher called for help, while a nurse and sports coaches rushed to administer CPR, according to the family. He was taken to the hospital by paramedics, where he died.
Cardel's family said he has a history of asthma, though he seemed healthy lately.
"Nothing was bothering him yesterday. He just had a physical two weeks ago, he was fine," said Sabrina Lee.
The family said schools chancellor Dennis Walcott and community leaders have reached out to express their condolences.
They are now awaiting the results of an autopsy.
