Police in Newburgh believe they have found the remains of a 4-year-old boy missing since last December.

Police said they found a body in a wooded area but it will take some time to determine whether the remains belong to Marc Bookal. His mother has been notified about the discovery, police said.

Marc has been missing since Dec. 14, 2009, when he disappeared from his mother's home.

He'd been left in the care of her boyfriend, 30-year-old Cory Byrd.  Police and search teams scoured the the town and Hudson River, but never found the young boy.

Byrd was arrested on a charge of endangering the welfare of a child in December, but the Orange County District Attorney dropped the charge.  Byrd is now being held at Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, where he's serving 15 months for violating parole for a drug conviction.
