Man Steals Cabbie's Phone, Then His Taxi: NYPD

A man posed as a fare before stealing a cab driver’s phone and then his taxi in the Bronx, police said.

The man hailed the cab around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday in Hunts Point.

After the 53-year-old cabbie drove him to his destination near Drake Street and Randall Avenue, the man grabbed the cabbie's cellphone, according to police.

But the cabbie wasn’t having it. He got in a fight with the man inside the taxi and the two eventually fell out of the car mid-tussle.

The suspect managed to jump into the driver’s seat of the taxi cab and drove off, police said.

He eventually abandoned the cab on Whittier Street a few blocks away and took off on foot.

The NYPD asks anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
