1. Violent Manhole Explosions Rattle Midtown Manhattan; 6 Hurt

A series of manhole explosions rattled midtown Manhattan, making people jump with sudden booms as black smoke billowed out from underground.

All together, up to five active manhole fires were reported, fire officials said.

Six people, five firefighters and a building supervisor, were hurt in a "flash smoke explosion" inside the original blast site on 32nd Street shortly before 10 a.m., authorities said. All injuries were considered non life-threatening.

2. Spears Shares Instagram Video to Reassure Fans She Is Well

Pop singer Britney Spears, who has recently sought mental health treatment, resurfaced on social media to reassure her fans she is doing well.

"I wanted to say hi, because things that are being said have just gotten out of control!!! Wow!!! There’s rumors, death threats to my family and my team, and just so many things crazy things being said. I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me," Spears wrote on the post.

Spears continued, "Don’t believe everything you read and hear... My situation is unique.

3. SummerStage Announces Gender-Balanced Lineup, 100+ Shows

SummerStage announced its lineup with more than 100 performers -- and this year, they are evenly split by gender.

SummerStage has partnered with Keychange, a campaign which asks music festivals to pledge a 50/50 gender balance in their lineups.

This is the first year that SummerStage has participated.
