Half-Naked Man Fights Officers, Takes Off in Squad Car: Police

A half-naked man fought officers responding to a domestic dispute, stole one of their police cruisers, then crashed it at a New Jersey intersection, authorities said.

Police in Nutley were met by the irate suspect when they responded to a call at a home there sometime before noon, according to authorities. The man wrestled one of the cops to the ground before hopping in their squad car and taking off.

The suspect drove into neighboring Clifton, and the vehicle collided with a white SUV at Passaic Avenue near New Jersey Route 3.

Authorities said that the man then tried to fight with police before being subdued and taken into custody.

His identity, and charges he faces weren't available.

One officers and two people in the SUV both suffered minor injuries.

Tony Sanchez saw the chaos unfold. He said the collision sounded like a truck crash and that the suspect was ready to fight with officers who got to the scene.

"He was kicking, he was putting up a fight," he said.

Nutley Police Commissioner Al Petracco said that he was proud of the officers who took the man into custody.

"If we're gonna have a safe country and safe community we really need to get behind these police officers cause they really have a tough job today," he said.
