Firefighters Battling Bronx Blaze Find Marijuana Plants

Firefighters battling a fire at a Bronx apartment building found a marijuana growing operation in the building's basement.

Police say about 10 pounds of marijuana plants were confiscated from the building in Castle Hill.

The building's super superintendent, 65-year-old Alberto Martinez, was arrested on charges of marijuana possession. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer who could comment.

No one was injured in the fire, which happened Saturday night.

In September, an explosion at another marijuana grow house in the Bronx killed a fire battalion chief. Michael Fahy died after being hit by blast debris while responding to a report of a gas leak. Two men were arrested in that incident.
