Man Left Bleeding on NYC Street Dies After Being Stabbed Multiple Times: Police

A 55-year-old man was stabbed and left for dead on a street in Manhattan Tuesday night, police say.

The NYPD says officers were called to East 44th Street and Third Avenue in Murray Hill, where they found the man suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest and stomach. The man was bleeding and breathing heavily, cops said.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The man’s name hasn’t been released. Police said he is known to authorities because he has 17 prior arrests in the city, with the most recent one in June.

The stabbing happened shortly before midnight, at a time when the area was still busy.

“I usually work all night," the deli worker told News 4. "I've been working late for a long time but nothing happened like that.”

No weapon was recovered, police said.

Police said they aren't sure if they are looking for more than one suspect, and the circumstances leading to the deadly stabbing weren’t immediately known.

The area remained closed to traffic through Wednesday morning.
