3 Fugitive Suspects Captured: Newark Police

Newark police have nabbed three fugitive suspects wanted in connection with a pair of robberies and other crimes committed in the city last month, authorities said Saturday.

The most serious case involves the fleecing of a 65-year-old man who had agreed to help pay a debt for a female acquaintance. On April 8, the victim drove the woman and two men to a bank and withdrew money for her.

The trio took his money and carjacked his 1992 Mercedes Benz, police said.

On Saturday, police arrested Kareem Blake, 25, at his home and charged him with carjacking, robbery, conspiracy and on charges contained in an outstanding warrant, police said.

Patricia Edwards, the woman allegedly involved in the swindle, was arrested on April 25, police said.

The other suspect is still at large.

In a separate case, detectives arrested Shakeem Bernard, 26, for allegedly violating his parole. He is a suspect in several other crimes, police said.

Also on Saturday, detectives arrested Nakiyya Pitts, 24, and charged her with robbery. Details about the alleged robbery were not available.

There was no information about whether any of the suspects had obtained lawyers who could respond to the charges on their behalf.
