For spring '13, Jenni Kayne extended her resort collection's preppy-meets-surfer-babe vibe with easy, casual pieces that were equally suited to the beach or the city. Here, a tweedy anorak and matching shorts in pale blue styled with a stripey polo and clear sunnies.

"I think the Jenni Kayne girl is always looking to her husband or boyfriend to steal his key menswear pieces," Kayne told us at her presentation. "So that registered in silk suiting, great blazers done in a cool ethnic prints and some great color-blocking."

For this season's turquoise-orange tribal print, Kayne took inspiration from old rugs. "On our spring mood board we had all these pictures of surfers and cool old kilim rugs," Kayne explained. "That definitely informed the prints."

Kayne's signature d'Orsay flats—which sell out as soon as they hit stores each season—came in tantalizing cool new hues and treatments for spring '13.

"These shoes are in a tougher leather than we usually do," Kayne explains. "And the soles are painted white, which gives them a really clean feeling." Our favorite pair was rendered in a rich magenta hue.

As usual, Kayne's signature sleek, simple silhouettes combined ladylike appeal with a laid-back, beach-club vibe, like this tweedy gray shift with zippered hip pockets.

Bright separates like this lemon yellow silk blazer or a hot pink tux jacket with a contrasting red lapel injected extra oompf into the crisp, clean silhouettes.
