The Landmarks Preservation Commission designated five new landmarks yesterday, among them the Hubbard House. The house was built by a Gravesend carpenter named Lawrence Ryder in the 1830s using a traditional Dutch framing known as "H-bent construction." Also in the mix: The Elsworth House in Staten Island and two public libraries in Manhattan.
