Jolie Holland headlines (Le) Poisson Rouge's intimate Radio Happy Hour.

Smoky-voiced singer-songwriter-fiddler Jolie Holland has a way of teasing emotion and meaning out of the most lo-fi, hushed melodies, most of which sound like they could have been sung around a Carolina campfire circa 1930.

So it makes sense that she’s returning to (Le) Poisson Rouge on Saturday to headline Radio Happy Hour, the venue’s live take on old-timey variety radio shows – it’s a bit like "A Prairie Home Companion," minus Garrison Keillor and the wink-wink small-towniness, and plus all the tropes of Depression-era radio shows. Expect interviews, one-liners, sound-effect driven slapstick (this is radio, after all) and plenty of good music. Or as (L)PR calls it, “an updated, New York version of ‘Hee Haw.’ With more drinking.” Holland is joined by comedienne/Moth storyteller/“Best Week Ever” regular Jessi Klein, who’s kind of like Janeane Garofalo without the glasses (except when she’s wearing glasses, which is most of the time, now that we think of it).
