Fairfield Homeowner Reports Severed Cat Head

Police say the homeowner reported the head appeared to be cleanly severed, so they don't believe it was an animal attack

Fairfield police say a homeowner has reported seeing a severed cat head, about a week after a similar discovery in Oxford.

Police said a homeowner on Steiner Street in Fairfield on Saturday reported seeing the head in the backyard. By the time animal control arrived, the head was gone.

The homeowner told police the head appeared to have been cleanly severed, so authorities don't believe it was an animal attack.

In Oxford, the severed head of a cat was found on July 7 on a residential street. It was the second such discovery in the neighborhood in the last seven months.

Oxford animal control officer Sandy Merry has said it appears the head was deliberately cut off.
