NYC High School Football Star Shot to Death Blocks From Home: Cops

A star running back at a New York City high school was shot and killed while walking home from a restaurant in Harlem, police said.

Eighteen-year-old Tylik Allen was gunned down while walking with friends near West 115th Street and Lenox Avenue Saturday night, according to officials. Allen was a senior at Kipp NYC College Prep in the Bronx and was also the team's running back.

The school’s football game scheduled against William Cullen Bryant High School on Sunday was canceled in light of Allen’s death.

Police said Allen was shot several times in the chest and back and died at a nearby hospital.

Allen's friends said he was loved by everyone and had wanted to play college football. They added that he loved making rap music and wanted to start his own clothing line.

Shayna Thomas had been sitting at a curbside memorial for Allen for hours Monday morning, wondering why someone would have killed him.

"I've been sitting here since 7:30 a.m., because I don't understand why (someone would do this)," she said.

Video from the scene shows detectives searching for clues in the street.

No one has been arrested and police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
