Diane von Furstenberg talks life, work, and fashion at FIAF tonight.

Diane von Furstenberg has come a long, long way since she was born Diane Halfin in Belgium in 1946. She's studied economics in Switzerland, started her own publishing house in Paris, founded a cosmetics line, dabbled in the home-shopping business, been a full-fledged princess (by marriage), and -- oh yeah -- there's the fashion designer thing, too. The wrap dress, which she created in 1974, is iconic, right up there in the style pantheon with classic items like Levi's jeans or the Burberry trenchcoat. And she's still taking plenty of risks today -- just take a look at the opulent designs she sent down the catwalk at the recent Fashion Week. (Also, at 63, she looks pretty damn spectacular.) Tonight, as part of the French Institute Alliance Francaise's Fashion Talks series, DVF talks about her wonderfully eclectic life and career with Pamela Golbin, who curates contemporary fashion for Paris' Musée de la Mode et du Textile. 7PM, French Institute Alliance Française, 22 East 60th Street, 212-355-6100
