A woman who uses a walker was followed home by a man and raped inside her own Bronx apartment in what one law enforcement source said was one of the most heinous acts they had ever heard of.
Sources familiar with the case told News 4 New York the suspect authorities think stalked the woman for nearly 40 minutes Monday evening before the attack was arrested in the Bronx on Wednesday.
The suspect, 40-year-old Unga Smith of the Bronx, is facing charges of rape, robbery, burglary, criminal sex act and sexual abuse. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
The suspect followed the 64-year-old woman into her Norwood apartment building, sources said. That's when he pushed her inside her unit, dragged her into her own bedroom and raped her as she pleaded for him to leave her alone.
He then stole about $250 from the woman and took off, sources said.
Paramedics responded to the woman’s apartment and took her to an area hospital in stable condition, police said. Her condition Wednesday morning was not known.

Neighbors in the area were angered that such a vulnerable woman was targeted.
"I hope the worst happens to him," James Walter said of the suspect. "You know, I don't wish the worst on nobody but in a situation like that -- I don't respect that."
