VESTAL, N.Y. -- A 77-year-old anthropology professor was fatally stabbed in a science building at Binghamton University and campus police took a male graduate student into custody.
Professor Emeritus Richard Antoun died Friday afternoon after being rushed to a hospital for stab wounds. Professors who were in the building at the time said Antoun was stabbed by a graduate student.
The student's name was not released Friday evening because he hadn't been charged.
Gov. David Paterson said in a statement that Antoun would "live on in his writing, his research and in his students, whose lives he forever changed."
Antoun authored several books, including "Understanding Fundamentalism: Christian, Islamic, and Jewish Movements."
