Man on Scooter Killed by Drunk Driver in Brooklyn

A man on a scooter was stopped at a stop sign in Brooklyn Monday night when a suspected drunk driver hit him from behind and killed him, police say.

It happened at about 7 p.m. at Meserole Avenue and Leonard Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Police said the scooter operator, a 41-year-old man, was struck from behind by a 29-year-old man driving a 2002 Buick, also traveling eastbound on Leonard Street.

The operator of the scooter was taken to Bellevue, where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified by police.

The 29-year-old Buick driver was taken into custody at the scene.
