Plaxico Returns….to Court

Wide receiver expected to plead not guilty

Embattled former Giant Plaxico Burress is scheduled to make his first appearance before a judge since a Manhattan grand jury indicted him two weeks ago. The wide receiver is expected to plead not-guilty.
He's charged with reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
That's the legalese; most New Yorkers remember the incident involved the one-time Super Bowl star shooting himself in the leg inside a Manhattan nightclub last fall.
Burress' expected not-guilty plea could set the stage for a high-profile trial. Burress' lawyer has said the wide receiver rejected several plea offers that would have sent him to prison for at least two years. He faces a minimum prison sentence of 3 1/2 years if convicted.
Meanwhile, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell hasn't decided the ex-Giant's football fate. Other teams have yet to offer him a job, and the season starts in just a few weeks. If he is signed by an NFL team, Goodell could suspend him for the year.
