A woman trying to report finding a newborn baby on Long Island was the child's mother and had just given birth, authorities say.
Cops responding to a 911 call near Oak and Cedar streets in Copiague shortly after 7:35 p.m. Monday found the woman and newborn outside the Oak Plaza shopping center. The circumstances remain unclear.
The woman was taken to a hospital; the baby was in stable condition, police said.
It's not clear who initially called 911. Child Protective Services and the Suffolk County Police Department's Special Victims Unit are investigating; they're also looking into whether the woman has other children.
Her name has not been released.
