A driver fleeing police hit a pedestrian in a Manhattan crosswalk and kept driver, cops say.
Police attempted to pull over a BMW X5 in Washington Heights for a traffic stop Monday night when the driver sped off, officials said. The driver sped off so quickly, authorities didn't have time to pursue them.
The BMW hit the pedestrian about nine or 10 blocks later, on Riverside Drive near West 155th Street, as he was walking in the crosswalk at around 9 p.m.
Neighbor Mark Brown said he he heard a car rushing by and then a "huge cracking sound."
Brown said the BMW driver never slowed down.
"When he hit the pedestrian, he just kept going full speed," he said.
The 36-year-old victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated. He is listed in stable condition and suffered a fractured elbow, according to police.
