Carolyn Maloney, who lost a Democratic primary to longtime colleague Jerry Nadler when last year’s redistricting process put them in the same New York district, will spend the spring semester mentoring students at Hunter College’s Roosevelt House Public Policy Institute, college officials announced Tuesday.
Maloney will serve as the Eleanor Roosevelt Distinguished Leader in Residence at Roosevelt House, a public policy institute housed at Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s former New York City home, Hunter President Jennifer Raab said.
“We are delighted and honored to welcome Carolyn Maloney to Hunter,” Raab said in a news release. “Her vast experience in Washington on social and economic concerns — particularly on issues of deep concern to women and girls — provides a practical and inspiring foundation for teaching and mentoring our public policy and human rights students.”

Maloney also advocated for the preservation of Roosevelt House on Manhattan’s East Side, Raab said. “So it is with a sense of history coming full cycle that we look forward now to sharing her knowledge, legendary energy, and impassioned advocacy in service to students, faculty, and the public in the landmark building she once fought with us to save,” she said.
Hunter, founded in 1870, is the largest college in the public City University of New York system.
