A man was arrested after the crash of a car reported stolen with a baby inside in Jersey City, officials say.
A woman left her baby in a car Saturday afternoon and asked a man known to her to watch the vehicle, officials said.
The man then got in the car and drove off, and the woman immediately called the police, city spokeswoman Kim Wallace-Scalcione said.
Officers located the car and a brief car chase ensued, but the pursuit was called off once police learned a baby was in the vehicle.
The car shortly afterward was involved in a crash with multiple vehicles with only minor injuries reported. The baby was unharmed.
The driver was arrested and faces charges of theft and kidnapping, with other counts pending, Wallace-Scalcione said.
