Strong, Gusty Winds Whip Tri-State; First Spring Saturday to Feel Like Winter

The strongest winds were expected late Friday into Saturday morning, with winds frequently gusting to around 40 mph throughout the tri-state

What to Know

  • Strong winds were expected late Friday into Saturday morning as the remnants of Thursday's soaker started to pull away from the region
  • The weekend starts off quite brisk and blustery, with highs in the mid-40s Saturday but the wind making it feel much colder
  • Sunday is the nicer half of the weekend as parts of the tri-state could see highs near 60 degrees and sunny weather

Strong, gusty winds were expected to whip over the tri-state Friday night and into Saturday, with winds frequently gusting to around 40 mph throughout the entire area.

Wind gusts topped 30 mph at all major local airports Friday afternoon — LaGuardia saw one at 41 mph — and Storm Team 4 warned winds were expected to pick up in the evening as the remnants of Thursday's soaker pulled away from the region.

Some parts of the tri-state could still see a few lingering showers Friday night, especially north of the city, according to Storm Team 4's Erica Grow.

Friday night will see a low of 43 degrees, and temperatures will be in the 40s on Saturday, but Storm Team 4 says the whipping winds will make it feel more like the 20s at times.

Saturday afternoon and Sunday are both expected to be sunny, Storm Team 4's Erica Grow says.

Winds will still be around on Sunday, but they'll be much calmer, Storm Team 4 says. Highs are expected to bounce back into the mid-high 50s, even nearing the 60-degree mark in spots.
