12 Hurt After SUV Crashes Into Bus, Pedestrians in Harlem: Police

An SUV struck a city bus while making a U-turn in Harlem on Saturday, spinning out of control and crashing into pedestrians on the sidewalk.

Twelve people were injured and 11 were taken to the hospital, police said.

Video showed what appeared to be a black SUV mangled and smoking on the sidewalk. Police pulled at least one young man from the van, who was able to walk.

Police say the SUV was an Uber car and that the 58-year-old driver suffered a medical condition and passed out while going west on 125th Street. The car collided with the back of an MTA bus, and spun into pedestrians, police said.

The people were struck near a Wendy's on 125th Street in Harlem around noon.

People who appeared to be injured were laying on the sidewalk and passersby were trying to help them.

The driver was extricated, FDNY said.

Pedestrians, a police officer, the driver and passenger in the backseat were all taken to local hospitals, authorities said. One is in serious condition, and two are in critical but stable condition, FDNY said.

So far, there have been no charges.
