Police nabbed two men after a gas station robbery on Long Island 15 minutes after the pair allegedly failed to rob a different gas station, authorities said Sunday.
Tony Taddonio, 27, of Medford, and Michael Iovino, 27, of Islip, were each charged with second-degree attempted robbery and second-degree robbery, Suffolk County police said.
In the attempted robbery, Taddonio, armed with a handgun, entered a Sunoco station on Route 112 in Coram at about 6 p.m. Saturday, but was chased away by the clerk who grabbed a stick from behind the counter, investigators said. Taddonio hopped into a car driven by Iovino and they sped away.
About 15 minutes later, Taddonio and Iovino made off with about $350 from a Mobil station on Middle Country Road, investigators said. But police responding to the attempted robbery, spotted the pair and arrested them.
The cash and a BB gun used in the robbery were recovered, police said.
It was unclear whether the pair had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
