Car Splits in Orange County Crash, 1 Killed

Police say one person was killed in a car crash so severe the vehicle split in half when it collided head-on with another car in Orange County Monday night.

A silver Audi sedan with four people inside was traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 32 in the town of Newburgh and was heading south, witnesses told police.

The Audi was passing other vehicles on the two-lane road when it crashed head-on with an oncoming vehicle, authorities said.

The Audi split upon impact, and one half careened into the woods.

One of the people in the Audi was pronounced dead on the scene. Other victims were taken to nearby hospitals with serious injuries, including one person from the other vehicle.
