Restaurant Manager, Server Struck by Hit-Run Box Truck in Manhattan

Police were searching for a white box truck that they say struck two men -- a restaurant manager and server who had just left work -- the Upper West Side before taking off on Tuesday morning.

The two men were struck by the truck at West 84th Street and Amsterdam Avenue shortly before 5 a.m. They both work for Jacob's Pickles, a comfort food spot on Amsterdam Avenue, according to the restaurant, and were leaving the eatery when they were hit.

A 24-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke's in serious condition. Police said he suffered life-threatening injuries to his head.

A 26-year-old man was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries. He was later released.

The restaurant, which did not release the names of the victims, described them as "good people" and said everyone who works there was shaken up.

The box truck still hadn’t been located as of 3 p.m. and no arrests had been reported.
