Community College Student Gunned Down on Bronx Street Corner

Police are looking for the shooter they say killed a 19-year-old community college student and wounded a 21-year-old man on a Bronx street corner late on Saturday.

Joseph Jiminez was walking to his girlfriend's and was at Walton Avenue and Rockwood Street when he was shot in the head, according to the NYPD.

By the time authorities got to the scene, Jiminez was unconscious and unresponsive; he was pronounced dead after being transported to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center.

Police later learned that the second victim walked to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center with a gunshot wound to his leg. That victim is in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in the case. A motive is also unclear

By Monday morning, dozens of candles and posters had been placed at the corner in Jiminez's memory.

Jiminez's grandmother, Saturnina Abreu, said that the 19-year-old was working and a student.

"I ask God and the law that justice be made," she said. "He was not a bad kid."

The Hostos Community College student's mother, Miledy Jimenez, said the killer "took a piece of my soul."

Other family members said that Jiminez played basketball at Bathgate High School and wanted to try out for the team at Hostos. His ultimate goal, they said, was to make an NBA roster.

Anyone with information on the shootings should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
