Search For Suspect Prompts Lockouts At Long Island Schools

Five schools in Suffolk County were in "lockout" mode for several hours Tuesday morning while authorities looked for a suspect involved in a domestic dispute.

The precautions were put in place at the schools in Islip before 10 a.m., according to authorities. No one was allowed to enter school buildings until the lockout was lifted at about 11 a.m.

The police spokeswoman says the search began in the area of Islip Avenue and Beech Street.

Local residents saw officers with weapons drawn and helicopters overhead.

It's not clear if the suspect was taken into custody or if there was any danger to students and staff inside the schools.
