Police expanded their search beyond the 15-mile barrier island in their ongoing hunt for possible victims of a Long Island serial killer.

Police investigating the case of a possible serial killer did not find anything new in an expanded search Monday.

Investigators widened their search beyond the barrier island in New York where authorities have discovered 10 sets of human remains.

State police searched the southern Wantagh State Parkway from Merrick Road to Ocean Parkway.

The Robert Moses Causeway will be searched Tuesday.

State police said no specific information prompted them to expand the search to this area, and that, should they discover any new evidence, the findings would be made public when "practical."

Authorities have been investigating since sets of human remains were found along Ocean Parkway near Oak Beach in December.

They had been looking for a missing New Jersey prostitute last seen in the area a year ago. She has not been found, but four other bodies have been identified.

The missing woman's family and friends marked the one-year anniversary of her disappearance on Sunday.
