Arrest in Deadly Shooting of 14-Year-Old Boy

Victim's mother had said son had no enemies.

The NYPD has arrested an 18-year-old in the killing of a 14-year-old boy on a Brooklyn street.

Tyrek O'Hara-Morris was shot in the head around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Crown Heights.

Police say the suspect, Dequan Edwards, has been arrested on charges of second-degree murder and weapon possession.

The name of his attorney was not immediately known.

Authorities believe O'Hara-Morris was shot as a dispute erupted amid rival gangs.

O'Hara-Morris, a student at Automotive High School in Williamsburg, was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The boy had a few previous run-ins with police for fighting, but his mother could not believe her child would have enemies that would have shot and killed him.

“My son has no enemies. He has no enemies. He’s a regular 14-year-old who lives with me – his mom – and his siblings. And we have a pretty decent life, you know,” Althea O'Hara, Tyrek's mother, told NBC New York.
