A man suspected of carrying out an armed robbery died after jumping between two trains while he was fleeing police, authorities said.

Police spotted the 29-year-old man when they responded to a report of an armed robbery at a grocery store at 2587 Jerome Ave. in the Fordham Manor section of the Bronx around 11:57 p.m. on Saturday, the NYPD said.

Officers chased after the man as he fled the location, but lost sight of him after he ran into the Fordham Road subway station at Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue, police said.

When they got to one of the platforms inside the station, a conductor told them the man had jumped between two trains, the NYPD said.

The 29-year-old was found unconscious on the tracks and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Officers recovered a weapon at the scene.

Authorities believe the man may have hit the third rail.

Police haven’t yet released the man’s name pending family notification, and an investigation is ongoing.
