Baby Boomers Plan to Leave New York After Retiring

The group says its survey shows 60 percent of working New Yorkers over 50 say they're likely to go elsewhere in retirement, taking an estimated $105 billion or more of annual spending

AARP says many Baby Boomers plan to leave New York as they retire and take a slice of the state's economy with them.

Its survey shows 60 percent of working New Yorkers over 50 say they're likely to go elsewhere in retirement, taking an estimated $105 billion or more of annual spending, said the group.

The statewide survey shows 40 percent worry about paying rent or mortgages, 56 percent are extremely or very worried about paying property taxes, 51 percent worry about utility bills and most are looking for improvements in health care, housing, transportation and jobs for older residents, said AARP.

The survey of 407 registered voters has a margin of error of 5 percent, said Spokesman Erik Kriss.

Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964.
