There should be no shortage of must-see action on Day 8 of the 2016 Rio Olympics. From Usain Bolt making his debut on the track to Michael Phelps' final Olympic race (or so he says), there will be plenty to please your inner competitive nature.

1. Usain Bolt, Brooklyn Native Justin Gatlin Cruise to 100m Semis
Jamaica’s Usain Bolt and New York's Justin Gatlin began their 2016 campaign to determine who walks out of Rio with the title "Fastest Man Alive."
Bolt and Gatlin moved on to the semifinals, both winning their respective 100m heats. Bolt won his heat at 10.07 seconds, while Gatlin won his at 10.01. The highly anticipated final takes place Sunday night.

Bolt and Gatlin have been the faces of Olympic sprinting for more than a decade. Gatlin was the 2004 Olympic 100m champion. Then Bolt won a combined six sprinting gold medals at the 2008 and 2012 Games.

“When you think about track and field, you think about Gatlin and Bolt,” Gatlin said. “We are showmen. We are true competitors.”
Gatlin compared the anticipation for a race against Bolt to that of a basketball game featuring Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, or a soccer match with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He said anyone could win on any given day.

2. Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad, 1st U.S. Olympic Athlete to Wear Hijab in Competition, and Women's Sabre Team Take Bronze
Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad and the U.S. women's sabre team took bronze on Saturday in a 45-30 win over Italy.
It was a near replay of the third-place match in men's foil Friday, which the U.S. won 45-31.
Russia will face Ukraine for the gold medal.
The U.S. lost 45-42 to Russia in the semifinals, while Italy lost to Ukraine 45-42.

Muhammad, who made history Monday as the first American to compete in the Olympics wearing a hijab, helped the U.S. take a 35-34 lead by scoring 10 points in a crucial late bout.
But the Russians rallied with six straight touches, a deficit two-time gold medalist and U.S. closer Mariel Zagunis couldn't overcome.

3. Phelps Is Golden in Final(?) Olympic Race
Michael Phelps came up with the perfect goodbye — if it was one. He won the 23rd Olympic gold medal of his career on Saturday night by swimming his best stroke, the butterfly, in the 4x100 medley. Speculation abounds, though, about whether he will actually walk away from the sport.

Phelps has already added a host of medals to his impressive tally in Rio, defeating longtime rival Chad le Clos in the 200m butterfly, handling USA teammate Ryan Lochte in the 200m individual medley and winning the 4x100m free and 4x200m free relays with Team USA. He tied for silver in the 100m butterfly.

4. Great Britain Defeats Previously Unbeaten USA Field Hockey Team
Great Britain on Saturday defeated the previously unbeaten United States 2-1 in a preliminary round women's field hockey match in Rio. Michelle Vittese scored for the U.S. in the third quarter, but Sophie Bray of Great Britain tied it up, 1-1, with just over 7 minutes left in the game.

Both teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
