575 Fifth on a Roll

Two years ago, when the Fifth Avenue Committee announced its plans to build a supportive housing facility on the site of a municipal parking lot at 575 5th Avenue in the South Slope, the potential composition of residents caused quite a to-do in the neighborhood, with even the borough president expressing his lack of approval. And now look at it: It's smooth sailing. Since we checked in at the construction's inception last fall, things have been humming along, as this photo on Gowanus Lounge yesterday shows. When all's said and done, there will be 49 units over five stories. GMAP P*SharkDOB
