    What to Know

    • Thunderstorms could develop around the time of the evening commute, complicating the afternoon rush

    • The rain tapers off by Saturday afternoon, but it'll be cool, with highs not breaking into the 60s

    • The weather improves for Sunday, but it'll still be very windy out

After several days of unseasonably high and even record-setting temperatures, an approaching cold front is making for an unsettled end to the work week.

Heavy rain moved over the region by early afternoon, as upwards of 2 inches of rain was reported in spots across the city and suburbs.

As the rain showers continue to move through Friday night, the winds will pick up. Winds could gust to 30 mph overnight into Saturday morning.

The showers will taper off by Saturday afternoon, but the winds will remain gusty, and there's the potential for damaging wind gusts as well, with some gusts topping 40 mph. Saturday is also much chillier than the mild weather we've been experiencing, with highs not expected to break out of the 50s.

Sunday will be the better day with sunshine returning and a high of 62 degrees, but a gusty wind will continue. Sunday's high temperature will be seasonable for late October, but with the wind, it'll feel cooler.

TODAY: Mostly cloudy a few scattered showers. Plenty of dry breaks in-between showers. HIGH: 74

    TONIGHT
: More showers, turning breezy. LOW: 54
