Panama City Beach Tries to Break Bikini World Record

The city could string together a win

Bikini-clad women in Panama City Beach on Tuesday will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Record’s listing for the world’s largest bikini parade.

The mile-long event, which starts at 11:30 a.m. local time, will kick off at Harpoon Harry’s, the News Herald reported.

“We are excited,” said Jack Bishop, owner of the beachfront bar. “We are looking for a great turnout.”

Guinness officials will hit the beach to count the number of locals and spring break students in the two-piece train. They will announce the results shortly after the parade ends.

The current record holder is Surfers Paradise beach of Gold Coast, Australia, where 357 women marched last year. Australian officials said they will parade again if Panama City Beach breaks the record.

“Our Australian counterparts say they intend to mount another challenge if the record is broken,” Dan Rowe, executive director of the Bay County Tourist Development Council, told the Panama City Beach paper.

The city may also face competition from bikini-wearers in Tampa and the South Beach area of Miami.

Parade organizers are donating $1,000 to Beach Care Services, which provides short-term emergency assistance to people in need who live on Panama City Beach.
