Police say Sam Friedlander shot his two children, Molly and Gregory, and beat his wife, Amy, to death with a piece of furniture. He then killed himself in the basement of their Cross River home.

Family and friends filled a Pennsylvania funeral home Saturday to mourn the lives of a wife and mother and her two children, who were all killed last week in their Westchester home.

The caskets remained closed as mourners said a final goodbye.

The bodies of Amy and Sam Friedlander and their children, 8-year-old Gregory and 10-year-old Molly, were discovered Tuesday in Cross River. News4's Roseanne Colletti reports. (Published Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011)

All three were buried at a cemetery near where Amy Friedlander grew up, and miles away from where the tragedy unfolded last week.

Police say Sam Friedlander beat his wife to death, then shot his children in their beds before killing himself in the basement.

Gary and Roberta Perez mourned their daughter and grandchildren along with dozens of friends who traveled from New York. Meanwhile, the Westchester community where the Friedlanders lived held a memorial at the family's synagogue in South Salem. Friends and neighbors were still in shock over the murder-suicide.

"How could anyone be prepared for such a tragedy," said one mourner. "There were never any signs. This is not the Sam I worked with, the Sam I knew.”

Authorities said the couple was divorcing.
