Since Hurricane Sandy battered the tri-state area last week, crime across New York City dropped significantly, according to statistics released by the NYPD.

Murder, rape, robbery, assault, grand larceny and car thefts all experienced double-digit percentage declines. Murder was down 86 percent.

Burglary, though, increased by 3 percent.

Overall, there were 1,061 crimes over the last five days compared to 1,541 last year -- an overall reduction of 31percent.

The statistics were taken from Monday, October 29 through Friday, November 2 and compared to the same time period from 2011.
