Toddler Among 3 Killed in Taconic Crash: NY State Police

A 2-year-old girl was one of the three people killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Taconic State Parkway that sent eight other people to area hospitals, New York State Police said Sunday.

The accident happened at about 3:10 p.m. Saturday when a northbound sport utility vehicle driven by 33-year-old Nerim Sinanovic went airborne after striking an embankment in the center median and collided with two southbound cars, investigators said. A third southbound vehicle then sideswiped the SUV and struck the center guardrail.

State police on Sunday identified the three fatalities as: Leona Sinanovic, 2, of the Bronx, who was a rear passenger in the SUV; Ledell Mulvaney, 61, and Katherine Mulvaney, 31, passengers in a 2001 Toyota struck by the SUV.

Donald Mulvaney, 63, the driver of the Toyota, remains in critical condition at Westchester Medical Center, police said. Five others were said to be in stable condition at that hospital and two others were treated and released from Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

The cause of the crash, which happened just north of Baldwin Road in Yorktown, was under investigation.

The southbound lanes of the parkway were closed for more than five hours.
