Several Long Island colleges and universities received record donations in fiscal year 2012.

Newsday reports that five Long Island schools received donations equal to or bigger than their largest gifts ever.

Stony Brook University topped the list after receiving a $150 million gift from the foundation of retired hedge fund manager Jim Simons and his alumna wife Marilyn.

Hofstra University was given the largest gift in the school's history after pharmaceutical executive Maurice Deane gave $20 million.

Financial executive Robert Willumstad gave his alma mater Adelphi University $9.5 million. That donation matched the largest in the school's history.

Farmingdale State College and Molloy College both received $1 million donations.
