Phony Police Officer Wanted

He got the clothes right, but the act wrong.

A man who liked to dress like a police officer used his ruse to cop a five-finger discount at stores across the city.

Now the NYPD is seeking the public's assistance in finding 36-year-old Bension Mamedov, who is wanted for impersonating a police officer while committing a larceny.

The suspect allegedly  wore an NYPD jacket and a police shield around his neck, enters commercial locations, removes items from the shelves and then takes the items to the register.

The suspect has identified himself as a police officer and returns the items as if he had previously purchased them at seven locations from October of 2009 to June of 2010.

Stores include Kings Pharmacy, Duane Reade, Banana Republic, and CVS located throughout Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island.

Mamedov weighs about 210 pounds at 6’0", according to cops.
