Your Guide to Friday's Commute After Hoboken Crash

There are plenty of service changes commuters should know following Thursday's train crash at Hoboken Terminal. Most notably, there's no NJ Transit service in and out of Hoboken. As a result, Secaucus Junction will see a lot more commuters and NJ Transit buses will be overcrowded. Here's what else to know.

___

NJ TRANSIT

New Jersey Transit's rail service is suspended in and out of Hoboken, but the agency is expanding bus, rail and light rail service.

All New York-bound trains on Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and MidTown Direct lines will run on normal weekday schedules.

The Main, Bergen and Pascack Valley lines will operate on a weekend schedule, originating and terminating in Secaucus.

There will be limited rail shuttle service on the Morris & Essex lines between Hackettstown and Dover.

The Gladstone branch will have its regularly scheduled MidTown Direct trains, in addition to rail shuttles between Gladstone and Summit.

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail will resume full service into and out of Hoboken.

The 126 bus line will operate between Hoboken and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. There also will be buses operating on a load-and-go basis between Hoboken and Secaucus.

Bus shuttle service will operate between Secaucus Junction and Liberty State Park Light Rail station, beginning at 6 a.m. and continuing throughout the day until midnight. The service will operate on a load-and-go basis from bus lanes 8, 9 and 10 during peak hours. During off-peak hours, service will continue to operate less frequently, based on demand. NJ Transit rail tickets and passes will be cross-honored on this shuttle service.

All other NJ Transit trains are operating regularly. Commuters could face overcrowding and delays.

___

PATH

PATH train service between Hoboken and 33rd Street and the World Trade Center stations in New York City resumed Thursday afternoon.

___

MTA/METRO-NORTH

The MTA is planning to run buses along the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines between the Tarrytown and Beacon stations:

  • Middletown Station (to Beacon Station on the Hudson Line)
  • Harriman Station (to Tarrytown Station on the Hudson Line)
  • Palisades Center Park and Ride in West Nyack (to Tarrytown Station on the Hudson Line)
Some commuters will be riding buses to get home in the wake of a deadly train crash at the Hoboken Terminal that killed one woman, hurt more than 100 people and demolished part of the century-old station. Andrew Siff reports.

This weekday, rush-hour, peak direction only shuttle service will be extremely limited, the MTA says. There will be no off-peak, weekend or reverse commute service.

The Pascack Valley train that crashed into the terminal originated from Spring Valley, New York.
