A police officer shot a 28-year-old man who was waving a machete at him in New Jersey Saturday night, authorities said.
The officer stopped the suspect’s car at around 9 p.m. in East Orange, according to an initial investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. The driver then approached the officer’s car while waving the machete.
After the man didn’t respond to an order to drop the weapon, the officer shot him.
The man has been hospitalized. There is no word yet on whether charges have been filed against him.
